King's Ely Sixth Form Kenya Trip 2025

November 2025

A 24-strong team of King's Ely Sixth Form students and staff have recently returned home from Kenya!

The group's main focus during their 11-day trip was to once again support the amazing work taking place at PEFA Matumaini Rehabilitation Centre - a charity which cares for disabled and disadvantaged children in a society where, sadly, people with disabilities are particularly marginalised.

Among this year's projects were to tile three dormitories and to upgrade some of the bathrooms to allow for better sanitation for the children at the centre. Team King's were also able to participate in a feeding programme at two local primary schools, where more than 2,000 pupils receive a maize-based drink to start their day at 7am.

At the St Andrew's School, Turi Children's Project, an after-school facility, our students and staff engaged with some of the village's most disadvantaged children, and were privileged to even stop by at some of their homes, providing them with a glimpse of what life is like for many families in rural Kenya.

The group also enjoyed visiting natural beauty spots, including Nakuru National Park, Lake Naivasha, and climbing Mount Longonot.

From snippets that we have heard since their return to the UK, all students who went on the trip found it not only fulfilling, but pretty life-changing.

Look out for a full report, including pupil reflections and more photos, on our socials soon!
